... Bloggy McBloggerson?

So for some reason I am all Posty McPosterson today (sorry, I couldn't help it -- yesterday's title is still on my brain) and decided to knock out a blog before work. Here's yet another backlogged outfit that I am only just now getting around to posting. I like how I've found so many things that these tights go with when, at the time I bought them, I felt like they would be awesome but wouldn't really go with anything. Well. I guess I should say "things to wear these tights with." I am not actually sure they "go" with this outfit. But I'm not actually sure I care. Why don't you decide, lovely readers?

Also, yeah, this "dress" is a little short with these tall heels. Um, oops. I love, love, love wearing shirts under it, and I'm always trying to find ways to make it work-appropriate, but that's a difficult task, as you can imagine. Guess I'll be wearing it with flats from now on...

Twirly McTwirlerson

Question time.

Why did I buy the Lingering Rays skirt again? It is long. I am short. Normally that is not a good mix. Hmm.

...

...

Oh yeah. That's why.

Satisfaction

Now here is an outfit that I quite liked. I don't know why I never thought to pair black tights with a black top and colorful skirt, but I'm really glad I finally did. To me it's a little bit "edgy" (haha, or as much so as I ever get) and keeps the crazy girliness of my favorite skirt from going over-the-top. I will definitely be trying this trick again soon, and probably repeating this outfit for great justice. Also, I really love these shoes.

Don't you love it when you're satisfied with an outfit?

Yeah, I'm a little obsessed:

I return! Reviews, OotD, and a kitty!

Bonjour! It seems I've once again been absent from bloggy-land, but will you forgive me if I bring you fitting room reviews? No? What about fitting room reviews AND an outfit post, all in the same evening? Regardless, I hope you and your loved ones had a very happy Thanksgiving. I did not participate in Black Friday because the crowds terrify me, but I did win a pretty awesome thing on Ebay. I'll tell you more about it later, but to give you a hint, it's 'vintage Anthro' and pretty awesome.

And now, onward to the reviews! When I was visiting my BFF Taylor Swift, I couldn't help but make a stop at my favorite place:

Oh yeah. I went there.

I found a lot of cool things to try on, and I wanted to share some of them with you! Sadly, due to the fact that I have no clothing budget to speak of and the lack of adequate sale-age on the things I liked, I did not bring anything home, but it did give me a lot to think about.

Flared and Cabled Sweater Dress, $148

I love sweater dresses, though they very often don't love me back, and I had my eye on this since it first appeared online. Unfortunately (fortunately?), I'm kind of meh on it in person. I felt like the length hit 5'3 me in an unflattering place and made me look wider than I am. The fabric was also a little itchy, but I'm sensitive to that, so it may not bother you. I did really like the color and the shape, and it seems to be well made. The gold color didn't impress me IRL and seemed drab, but the orange version is very nice. I tried on an XS and thought it was a little big, so you may want to size down, especially if you're petite. With heels and maybe a slip, this could be workable, but I don't think I love it enough. A pass for me unless it gets some epic markdown treatment. If you're tall and don't have sensitive skin, I can see this working really well.

Dulcie Dress, $158

So, I like this dress. I really like this dress. I liked it so much that I tried on the wrong size just to see how the color looked on me. The above picture is a medium, and as you can see, it's way too big. I was expecting to love the lighter color more because it's more my style, but after trying on the darker version:

I was totally impressed with it. It's a total holiday party dress, and I wish I went to more of those so I could have an occasion to wear it, but I would totally wear this out to dinner because I am overdressed like that. Maybe it's just because I had the correct size in the black colorway, but I think I prefer this one (the above picture is an XS, and I think this dress is TTS). I was worried that the top would itch, but it actually didn't. Wonder of wonders! And of course, I'm a little crazy for the tutu it's got going on with the skirt. Because you know that my goal in life is to be a ballerina-cupcake-Pink-Power-Ranger hybrid. The length was just right for me, and I didn't find the waist too high, as some reviews have noted. I think this dress might work best on petites because of this, and if you're taller than me you may have some issues. The style is also a little out-there, and if you aren't super girly like me, it probably won't be your thing. That said, it's totally lovely IRL, and you should definitely try it to see if it works for you. I will be crossing my fingers for a sale so I can grab this.

And finally, as my mom laughed at me, I tried this on:

Ruched Marigold Coat, on sale for $150, sold out online but check stores!

Oh, this coat. It is a little ridiculous and crazy, but I love it. Alas, I fear we are not to be. My mom said it looked like the coat ate me. I didn't feel like it was that bad, but maybe my love has blinded me. This is an XS, and it's definitely on the big side, especially the sleeves and the length. If only it came in petites! I am in love with how soft and awesome this coat is, but I fear that I look like I'm playing dress-up in it, so I'm probably going to pass, as sad as that is. If you can pull this coat off, I am totally jealous of you, and you must buy it so I can live vicariously. That is an order!

And finally, an outfit from my archives:

Pants: Anthro
Shirt: JCrew warehouse
Necklace: NY and Company
Shoes: Oooooold
Fall foliage: c/o this amazing weather!

... Okay, not finally. Here is a picture of my adorable kitty, to make it up to you for being gone so long:

I'm wonderstruck, dancing around all alone

Hello, beautiful readers! I'm sorry for my unplanned absence, but after two Taylor Swift concerts in two days and attempting to fulfill my work and personal responsibilities at the same time, I was really wiped out. Blogging took a back seat for a few days, but I'm back now to tell you that the concerts were AWESOME and everything I had hoped for and more. Pictures of those days are coming up when I finally get through my outfit back log, but for now, here are some Bullet Points:

- I love Taylor Swift.

- I may or may not have cried at a few of her songs.

- I was given a free sample of her perfume (Wonderstruck) on my way out of the second concert, and after unsurprisingly loving it, I had to run out and buy a full size bottle. I'm a little obsessed.

- I regret nothing about the past week of my life, and I would do it again in a heartbeat to see my favorite singer.

- I love Taylor Swift.

Okay, now that that's out of the way, have an old outfit! I'm really enjoying this ModCloth dress. Did I mention that it's back in stock and you should go get one? Because it is and you should.

Styling Sisters: Katie and Ria wear the Lolland Dress

So I am a little rushed because I'm about to head out to do something I almost don't want to mention for fear of jinxing it. That's right: I am going to try again to see Taylor Swift. I'm a glutton for punishment. I'll say no more until after the concerts (yes, plural), but there will be recaps (and outfits!) to be had when I return, rest assured. If you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go knock on some wood now...

...

... Okay, I'm back. So as I said, I don't have a lot of time to post, but post I shall because Ria wanted me to write about her recent acquisition of the beautiful Lolland Dress from the very kind Laura. Thank you so much for selling this dress to my sister, Laura! We both have one now, so of course we had to post outfits of how we each wore it. As luck would have it, I recently wore my dress, too, so here's what we came up with:

Okay, I was not aware at the time this photo was taken that I was participating in the Lolland Dress Challenge, so this outfit isn't the best, but I'm repeating something I did last year and wearing it with dark green. I think this works surprisingly well, and the neutral cardigan keeps things from getting too crazy.

Ria decided to add a belt because her dress is a tiny bit big at the waist, but other than that she kept things simple with brown shoes and red accents. This dress kind of speaks for itself, so I don't think it needs a lot of dressing up. Brown is another great color with it. What I love about this photo, though? This is the first I've seen of Ria's new law school apartment. Bad Ria for not showing me until now.

I hope you've enjoyed this episode of Styling Sisters! Thanks again for selling this great dress to my sister, Laura! I'm off to, gulp, hope nothing terrible happens on the day of my concert. Take care, all!

... Can I go knock on some more wood? Yeah, that's a good plan.

I am sillier and comfier than you.

Do you know what this outfit is not? Sleek, cool, flattering on my skintone.

Do you know what this outfit is? Comfy. That's right, folks. It is hella comfy. It is "Say Yes to the Dress Marathon in your PJs with cats on your face" comfy.

I got this sweater at my recent excursion to the latest JCrew warehouse sale, and oh my, how it does not work with my coloring. But oh my, how much do I not care, because it is cashmere and amazingly soft and I got it for $20. Can you go wrong? I do not think so, friends. I do not think so. I decided that if I was going to wear an exact-match-to-my-skin-color sweater out in public, I might as well go for maximum silliness, so I added these tights with my new Urban Outfitters skirt ($5!). Turns out that there might be nothing else on Earth that these tights match other than this skirt, but match they did. That's... probably not a good thing if my goal is sleek and cool, but since my goal was silly, I think it worked out just fine.

In conclusion: I'm willing to bet my outfit was more comfortable than yours on this day. And as my dad likes to say, "I only bet when I know I can win."

A sickly outfit

So this is another old outfit that I wore a week or so ago when I was having one of my miserable sick days at work. I think this was taken during the worst of the sickness, which amuses me because I actually really like this look. And holy crap, why is my hair behaving when I'm sick? Dear hair, please do this at a time when I want to do something other than lie in bed with an ice pack on my head watching Thumbelina and guzzling cold meds. Yeah, this outfit didn't last long, because on this particular day I went home at 4PM and did exactly that, but I figured that you should get to see it anyway. This lovely dress has been just as versatile as I'd hoped, and although it's still a little big, I've been able to create many of the outfits I'd envisioned with it already. Best part? It's totally back in stock at ModCloth, so if you need a comfy basic, go get it!

"Favorites" and a little time machine OotD

Yeah, I know I just wore this skirt a couple of weeks ago on the blog. Sometimes I feel like I'm constantly living in a 30 for 30 challenge. I can't help it. There are some clothes that I just want to wear all the time because they make me so happy. It's hard to know which items will become "favorites" when you go shopping, and I've found that totally unexpected choices often get slid into this category. That shirt I bought on a whim while out with a friend? Can't stop wearing it. The skirt I almost didn't buy? Ditto.

Like many others who enjoy shopping, I totally wish that everything in my closet was a 'favorite,' and while I'm happy to say that about a good 80% of my closet these days, I do wish it were closer to 100%. Another problem is that a lot of my beloved items have really memorable prints, so they're difficult to wear often and remix frequently, as I'm doing here. This probably should say to me that I need to lay off the quirky prints when I'm shopping. It's not. Oops.

That said, I kind of had a suspicion that this skirt would become a 'favorite' item, since it is very me and very comfortable and very versatile, so I'm kind of okay with spamming the blog with it. Plus, this is one of my last tights-less pictures of the year, and I wanted to put it up before I waited too long and it became ridiculous in the dead of winter. Bask in my bloggy time machine of warmer days gone by, my friends. Bask, I say.

Quick post before zzz.

Good evening! I am very sleepy! Here is a silly outfit for you!

Anthro Reed Dress, Luminous Boots, Speckled Tights
UO (very fake) glasses
NY and Company necklace

Yeah, I'm super nerdy. Also sleepy. Did I mention sleepy?

PS: My Antilles bag arrived last week with super fast shipping. It is lovely and even better than what I'd hoped for. I love it. It will be in an outfit post soon. If you can manage to track one down, do it! $30 is a steal for something this nice, and it's super awesome and you should get one.

Thursday, November 3, 2011

How to start your day.

Step One: Be woken up at 3:35 on Wednesday morning by cats.

Step Two: Hate life. Repeatedly.

Step Three: Realize that, since you're awake, you might as well check the Anthropologie sale.

Step Four: Notice that the Antilles Bucket Bag is finally on second cut to $30.

4b: Yeah, that's a $130 leather bag for $30.

Step Five: Do I need to explain how I responded to this situation?

I am super excited because my order shipped yesterday, which means that it won't be canceled and I am going to have an awesome new bag! As you might remember, I have one bag that I got as a Christmas gift, and it is a very sneaky imitation leather and awesome, but I think I deserve a new one once every... two years, right? Right?

Step Six: Post an outfit on your blog the next morning:

Dress: Anthro Dreamy Drape
Cardigan: JCrew warehouse (pretty sure it's the Jackie? It's pretty!)
Shoes: Softwalk

(As you might guess, this outfit was before winter descended upon this poor, unsuspecting, cold-natured scientist.)

Tuesday, November 1, 2011

Hi, November. Nice to meet ya.

Yawn. I'm still recovering from Halloween, but I have a dance class to attend tonight, so I'd better pick myself up and get moving. Do you know the best thing about making way too much food at your Halloween party? A plethora of leftovers, that's what.

I wanted this outfit to happen ever since last summer when I saw this top and this slip hanging next to each other in my closet. I thought the colors would be awesome together and so fall-ish with tights, and I'm really loving the slip as a skirt lately. Unfortunately, it was way too hot for this outfit to become reality at the time I got the idea, so I put it aside until the weather retreated into less hellish temperatures. When I finally got a chance to wear it, I really liked how it turned out. I think this color palette works really well for the first day of November. The holidays are creeping up on us, eep!
